Over the summer

Busy times yet again. The best news being we now have our Charity Registration in place! This will help us to be more proactive with fundraising and putting our profile out there! Our puppies have grown over the last couple of months and 2 (Daisy & Rosie) are off to their forever homes. With lots of visitors we were able to see just how well our dogs behave with adults and children and other dogs, always an important part of our work to ensure they are well socialised before leaving us. There were a few tears when the grandchildren had to say goodbye to the dogs but we’ve assured them there will be more new ones for them to meet on their next visit. Abril is in the photo.

We hope to expand our kennel space at our home in the coming weeks to enable us to help more dogs. Lastly please take a look at our Events page where you will find details of 2 up and coming fundraisers. Hope to see many of you there! Runa is in the photo.

So what did we do in June?

Another busy month. Lots of trips to the vets for vaccinations etc. We moved Runa and Abril to ours and they have settled in with our other dogs. They are loving but clumsy and boisterous so we have worked with them to socialise them and they are responding very well. It also gave their quieter brother Richard a chance to eat in peace! Jenny continues to become more trusting everyday and her puppy Nina will join Runa and Abril as soon as we have finished the other run. We have been very fortunate to receive donations for the dogs of bedding, food, toys etc. from friends including the customers of Smiler’s Bar in Benalmadena. Some good friends and family members have also helped by covering the cost of some of the vaccinations, which has been a really big help. Thank you everybody! We have also been feeding a stray cat and her kitten – now discovered to be 2 kittens! We hope to be able to catch them all, spay Mum and rehome the kittens but that is not proving to be an easy task!

This month we sold the maximum number (100) of tickets for the meat raffle so very pleased with that too. Hope we can maintain the numbers!

Finally, yesterday we took in 2 puppies who had been dumped on a busy road. Beautiful little girls. More information about them on next month’s update.

This month’s update.

Another busy few weeks. Lots of travelling and meetings. Our formal application for charity status has been submitted and now we wait, hopefully not too long! We’ve been working with other rescues in Spain and UK helping each other to share and promote all our dogs. A family member in the UK fell in love with a little dog at another Spanish shelter, Carl has travelled to collect him and has taken him to UK  where he has a fantastic home.

Remember Nani, the pups Mum? She has been reunited with her family and now living in the family home. We are delighted for her. She looks amazing and the family is keeping up with the medication. They send updates and videos and we will stay in touch with them. A big thank you to CHAIN for helping with her spaying costs and some of her treatment.

Our monthly meat raffle continues to be well supported and we are looking at lots of different options for future events and activities to raise funds to enable us to help as many dogs as we can. Generous donations of bedding, clothing and other items like bleach and bin bags have been received from friends and we are very grateful to everybody who has helped in any way.

On Facebook we saw an urgent plea for help to take 3 small puppies from the pound on the east coast, time was running out for them. We agreed to help and transport was arranged to bring them to us. When they arrived there were an additional 2 dogs with them, so buy 3 get 2 free! They are all safe now and we are now working hard to find good homes for them.

Home Checker needed UPDATE

Thank you everybody. We now have somebody to do the home check!

Urgently seeking someone to do a home check for little Poppy. She is due to travel in just over a week. Check would be in Evesham, Worcester. Anybody able to help please?????

What have we been up to?

Well the past month has been very busy. Lots of trips to the vets with all the dogs and to buy dog food as they all have good appetites!

The Cocktail Party at Smiler’s was a huge success not least because our puppies Casper and Caramel both found wonderful new homes here in Spain. It was such a good day we are looking forward to the next one and finding more forever homes for the dogs in our care. Chocci travels to the UK next month so to avoid him being in a run by himself, Casper’s lovely Mums are fostering him till then. Thank you Celine and Theresa!

We have finally been able to spay the 4 pups Mum, Nani. She has certainly been through it. After looking much better we found she had tick fever and could not be spayed while taking the medication. The bacterial infection in her ears is much improved but needed a change of medication. She will be returned to her owner in the next few days and we will monitor to make sure she continues to receive treatment.
